OTTERS ENCLOSURE

Project Overview

Atomiq was asked to develop a new concept for the existing Asiatic Otters exhibit at UnderWater World that would offer greater visual impact, provide a relevant setting for the popular animals and make adjustments to allow for a new program of otter encounters.

With a very limited budget the enclosure was transformed into a South East Asian temple-like environment using murals, signage and graphics, statues, and small themed constructions.

UnderWater World were keen to remove or hide the unsightly security barriers that prevented the otters from escaping. After some discussion with trainers to understand the otter’s behavior and capabilities we were able to develop a themed cornice piece which integrated to the temple theme but actually provided the security barrier in a seamless and invisible manner.
